Start with a sound
Choose an available recording in Listen, or use the directory and search in Explore. You can search a recording’s displayed title, a place or a country. Some places do not yet offer a playable recording; their availability is shown in the app.
Pause, browse and return
Pause with the playback control. Collapsing the player returns to browsing without changing playback: a playing recording continues, and a paused recording stays paused. Use the mini-player to reopen the same recording. Long soundscapes loop; short events play once and can be replayed after they finish.
Timers and the Lock Screen
The sleep timer offers 15 or 30 minutes, or 1, 2, 4 or 8 hours. It counts elapsed time even while playback is paused. Choose the no-timer option to cancel it. With the screen locked, use the system playback controls to pause, resume or seek.
Offline listening and maps
The available recordings and photographs are included in the app for offline use. Apple map backgrounds and external source or license pages need an internet connection. The directory provides a route to recordings without using the map.
Sources, photographs and covers
Open a recording’s source information to see the creator, recording place, license and processing notes. A map pin may be a regional reference rather than the microphone’s exact position. Photographs and recordings can come from different dates and viewpoints.
Some covers are generated editorial images. They are identified in the app and are not photographs of the recording event. The separate regional photographs keep their own credits and licenses. See cover information and the material credits.
Text, language and access
Use your usual iOS or iPadOS accessibility settings, including VoiceOver, text size and Zoom. Language and appearance choices are in the app’s About page. If spoken guidance and a recording compete, pause the recording while exploring controls. You can report unclear wording or a control that is hard to find or use.
When something goes wrong
Tell us the recording’s displayed name, app version, iOS or iPadOS version, what you expected and what happened. A time within the recording helps identify an audio issue. Include the interface language and any accessibility setting relevant to the issue if you wish. Do not send passwords, private recordings or other unnecessary personal information.
You do not need to delete the app or clear your favorites to make a report. Favorites and playback history are stored on your device; system backups are managed through your Apple settings. Read the privacy information before changing or removing data.
Attribution or rights questions
Email the item’s name and source link, and describe the concern. Original creators and license versions are listed separately for recordings and photographs on the credits page.
